1936

The Bay Shore Property Owner's Association was formed by the neighbors of our locality who decided to create a social and informational group for the community called 'Bay Shore' β€” from Swan Boulevard to Bay Shore Drive, Minturn up to Route 37. The first clubhouse stood on the corner of Route 37 and Fischer Boulevard.

1940

A very active women's club paid to have the clubhouse moved to the land that is now our playground area. The group then purchased chairs, dishes, pots and pans, silverware, flags and draperies. When the adjacent property was at risk of being sold to a non-resident, each member purchased a $25 bond to secure the land and clubhouse for the community.

1980s – 2000

The playground grew over the decades β€” starting with a sliding board, swings, a maypole and seesaws. The playgym was added in the 1980s and the newest merry-go-round was donated in the summer of 2000. The beach area was filled with sand, fences built and maintained, and the bulkhead replaced in March 2000 with the sturdy vinyl bulkhead still in place today.

Memories

Many members have fond memories of summer days on the Bay Shore Beach β€” buying ice cream in the clubhouse, having badges 'checked', and searching for the perfect spot for the family blanket and umbrella. Times have changed, but many friendships begun back then are still going strong!

October 29, 2012

Superstorm Sandy destroyed our clubhouse, leaving the community to begin again. Through resilience and togetherness, the Bayshore Beach Club rose from the storm β€” stronger than ever.
